Microneedling is a popular service that boosts collagen in the skin to help reduce signs of aging, the appearance of scars and more.
This minimally-invasive treatment typically lasts 30-60 minutes.
How Microneedling Works
Microneedling stimulates the body’s own natural collagen production to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, stretch marks, skin laxity and scarring.
During the treatment, a microneedling pen will be used to gently cause small “punctures” in the upper skin surface. This allows for dead and superficial skin to slough off after a couple of days, revealing younger looking skin that is brighter and more even in tone and texture.
Microneedling can be used to treat:
- Acne scars
- Age or sun spots
- Wrinkles and fine lines
- Large pores
- Stretch marks
- Reduced skin elasticity
- Uneven skin tone
- Other types of scars
Does microneedling hurt?
Most patients report feeling very little discomfort during their treatments and the most common complaint is that it feels like pressure or vibration on the area being treated. A topical anesthetic (numbing cream) will be applied to the treatment area to help minimize any discomfort during the procedure.
Possible Side Effects
After your treatment, you will find that the treated area will be red, similar in appearance to a mild sunburn. You may also experience skin tightness and mild sensitivity to touch.
All of these side effects will start to go away a few hours after the procedure, and will completely disappear after 24 hours.
Since there will be redness after the treatment, we recommend that you get microneedling done a few days prior to any special event – especially if you are getting it done on the face.
